Remembrance
by Melissa D. L. Jacobs
In studying the Word of God, it is easy to identify the central theme throughout. God takes great efforts to make it abundantly clear that He wants us to always remember "Who He Is" and "What He Has Done For Us."
He desires us to be Holy, Set Apart, Righteous and most importantly OBEDIENT.
In the Old Testament, God often identified himself as "I Am, the Father of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob." The LORD would constantly tell his people, the Israelites, to remember Him, his love, his goodness and mercy. But God's children would be too busy living their own lives to care. They became so busy with living life and doing whatever they wanted, that they forgot about God and the desires He had for them.
In the New Testament, the Word became flesh, and became a living sacrifice for the remission of sins. The opportunity was given, once again, for God's children to be in right relationship with Him. But before long, God's children became caught up in living "the life" and had to be reminded to "press on towards their calling in Christ Jesus."
This cycle of neglect towards our Father has continued far too long. I fear that many of us are caught up in the temporal. Our goals in life are to obtain "things" which will eventually pass away, instead of storing up for ourselves treasures in heaven.
Do you wonder how different the world would be, if "life" was more valuable than obtaining a new car or new house? My sisters, let us not forget our purpose.
We are to live according to God's will, lead others to Christ, and be disciples, so that those brought to Christ will not fall away but will in turn lead others.
Material things will never make us truly happy, they are temporal. Let's not forget that LIFE is more valuable than things. Let's not forget the life of Jesus Christ that was sacrificed so that we might be saved. Let us use the days of our lives being obedient to God, saving lives, and always remembering our purpose.
