“The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.” (NIV)
A wise old man often told me growing up that “the words you speak today determine your tomorrow.” I adopted the saying as a way of thinking because in the Word of God it clearly states how the tongue should be monitored and everyone should watch what words they speak.
The Message Bible states Proverbs 18:21 as, “Words kill, words give life; they’re either poison or fruit—you choose.
Needless to say it amazes me how people speak negativity over their lives. When some people find humor in things they will say “I was dying laughing,” or if something bothers them it is, “They kill me with that.” Or they are “sick and tired,” “broke as a joke,” the list goes on and on. I am guilty of making many ignorant statements or comments that should not be made, mainly the “get on my nerves” comment finds its way out of my mouth. Then I wonder why I am feeling anxious.
As women we love to talk. Talking is how we express ourselves to the fullest. It releases pent up emotions, and allows us to get things out on the table. So why do we waste so much energy using our tongue to speak negatively. We have the opportunity each day to speak positively in every situation in our lives.
There are a few women I have noticed over the years who constantly quote scripture. You ask them how they are doing and they are Deuteronomy 28:6, “Blessed coming in and blessed going out.” They may even be Luke 1:28 “highly favored!”
I am sure we all could use the example of these women and be more positive while using our tongue. Speak the word of God into your life, not nerve problems, sickness and disease or death. There is power in our tongue, so let us be women who use it wisely.
